    Hitler & Henchmen Photo: Identification

Here is an original period photograph which was received from a Canadian vet along with a large purchase from him. He said that it was taken shortly after the assassination attempt to kill Hitler, pointing to Hitler's right hand which appears to be bandaged. He told me that it was taken by a Canadian "spy" who gave the photo to him! Believe what you may.

In any case, I would greatly appreciate help with the identification of those surrounding Hitler and an approximate dating, insofar as this might be possible, please.

Following are some of my observations from close examination of this photo which might be helpful:

Those on Hitler's right seem to be NSDAP officials (with an SS officer immediatelty behind the two at the extreme right); those on his left, SS officers.

The Party official on Hitler's extreme right (with a scar on his left cheek?) and the man next to him appear to be wearing Golden Party Badges on their left lapel and breast pocket, respectively.

The tall man in uniform behind them and to Hitler's right appears to be wearing a "Blood Order" ribbon on his right breast pocket.

The SS man just behind Hitler's left side appears to be wearing what looks like an SA Brunswick 1931 Badge of Honour.

SS cufftitles are just visible on two of the men on his left, although not sufficient to see which cufftitle. Identification of those two would perhaps assist in knowing this.

The man in civilian dress between the two SS men has papers in his hands and appears to be consulting with one of them. One SS man carries some rolled-up paper in his left hand.

The stamp on the reverse of the photo places the photographer - or place where it was developed - as being in Braunschweig.

The photo measures approximately 9 x 6 cm.

Thanks, in advance, for any feedback or comments.

    John

        No

I would say from the look of the uniforms the picture was not taken in 1944

Thanks, Scott. I am not that knowledgeable of uniforms and their periods, but this is a start. The story from the vet I took with a grain of salt in any case. My observation was that Hitler's hand is not bandaged, as the vet said, rather it appears blurry probably because he was raising it rapidly as the photo was taken.

Can any members identify at least some of the figures in this picture?

I think that's Heinrich Himmler on the far right.

Due to the style of the uniforms/capeagles the pic is rather of the earlier, pre war times.

The tall man (sa) with the blood order is BRÜCKNER, AH´s sa ordonance-officer.

Not Himmler IMO on the right Too Heavy.
I believe he is just over Adolfs Left shoulder

                    SS leaders at Braunschweig

the SA leader left AH is his Adjudant Wilhelm Bruckner
the SS leader right AH is Friedrich Jeckeln leader SS in Braunschweig
the big SS leader could be Klagges Ministerprasident Braunschweig
the SS leader far right look like Friedrich Alpers state minister in Braunschweig

                    best

Just a confirmation of my friend Georges' excellent identification work. All correct, including Alpers.

Thanks Georges and also Mike for the confirmation, as well as others for suggested IDs. Now...who are the two Party members/officials in front on the left side of the picture? Anyone care to comment, please? John

The man on the left in the double breasted suit looks a lot like Adolf Wagner, Gauleiter of Munich-Upper Bavaria.

Beer Hall Celebration of 1923 Putsch

Considering those present in the photo, the use of M1929 Cap Eagles and the collar tabs on the Political Leader's uniform, this picture had to be before 1938 and looks like the walk to the Feldherrnhalle for the anniversary of the Beer Hall Putsch. Probably 1936 or 1937. Definately not 1944.

                              Dear Mr. Weinand,
I agree that the photo is definitely not 1944, in fact, I susupect it predates 1936. I don't think it's an official event relating to the Anniversary march as neither Hitler or Wagner are in the "traditional" uniform usually worn for this occasion.
                              Regards,
                              Derek
