    Document Stamp Question

    Hi All,

I've only recently got the bug with this hobby, but it's proving highly addictive and this site is a prime resource - great work to all the mod's and regulars here!

I saw this item recently, and wondered if (a) it's genuine, and (b) what it would have been for - a prison? I speak some German and can make out 'kommandantur' (army headquarters?). I can't make out the other word though.

Any ideas from the experts? I hasten to add, this ISN'T mine, I have no axe whatsoever to grind! In fact, it's on ebay right now, and there is a LOT of interest - would it be right to assume that many of those bidding on it plan to use it for the evil practice of forging docs, or are there specific collectors fo stamps?

    Cheers
    Gilbert

            Hi Gilbert

Yes there are stamp collectors out there, perhaps one of them will comment on this one. Genuine or not thay could be used to forge docs but with this one you'd be reasonably limited as to what you could forge with it. The word on the bottom seems to read Potsdam. That would make it something like Garrison Headquarters Potsdam.
