No not unusual at all. Imo it's his award. Last couple years of the war "Kids" were serving all over the place and being awarded KvK's & EK's. Very nice photo by the way Tom
I have no doubt this is the boy's medal... There are many documented photos of young boys receiving EK2's and KVK2's...
Here is one of Hitler on April 20th, 1945 (His Birthday).
Adolf Hitler in the garden of the Reich Chancellery awards the young members of the Hitler Youth. This is one of his last pictures. In the center are the young natives of Silesia: the second on the right is 12-year-old Alfred Czech and the third one – 16-year-old Wilhelm Hubner

New info that this photo was taken NOT on AH's b-day, but on 20 March 45, one month before. And He is not "awarding the EKs" just giving congrats. These boys had already been awarded their EK2's and were just sent to Berlin for PR purposes. Tom
Interesting... I have seen your posts on here and you are very knowledgeable so I have no doubt you are correct. I found the pic I posted from two sources stating that but like anything else on the internet it doesn't mean its perfect.
I did some research as well. It appears you are correct. It also states there was an undocumented ceremony with one of these boys on his AH Birthday on April 20th as well. Perhaps that is why some of the history has attributed this photo to April 20th...

"Nothing further is known about Erwin Scheideweg. Armin Lehmann (May 23, 1928 – October 10, 2008) often said to be standing with Hubner and Czech, wasn't present on March 20, 1945, but was decorated on Hitler's birthday on April 20, 1945 in an undocumented ceremony outside the Fuhrerbunker in the Chancellery garden. "
Anyway, thank you for the comment. It is always enlightening to dig deeper into aspects of our hobby.
