That is still in the research why he is wearing the RK but the name is for sure right. His military records are untill may 1944, right before Normany where he was stationed in this period. The picture is from Christmass time 1944. Still a big mistery

Perhaps just a Portrait make early after the War to impress a new Girlfriend or the Friend at the "Stammtisch" on Friday evening.

writing on picture sais 1944. actualy everything concerning the set is all speculation as no data was found from 1944 till end (it is right the time of Normandy)

It amazes me that after so much new was discovered from this set which was untill a month ago such a big mistery, that no one else from the collectors community has anything to say.

There were many Ritterkreuz cheaters during and even more after the war.

Consider this:

- the Knight's Cross was created on September 1, 1939

- the first Knight's cross was awarded on September 30, 1939

- the first cheater was bragging about his Knight's cross in November 1939

Luftwaffe Leutnant Hans Wetzel claimed he had shot down 25 enemy aircraft.

There was an article on him and how he received the Knight's cross in a German newspaper on November 29, 1939. This article lead to him being found out.

Veit Scherzer's book "Die Ritterkreuzträger 1939 - 45" is considered the standard work on the recipients of the Knights Cross. In this book, he lists one recipient not recognized by OdR - Siegfried Rieger. Riegers story however, was known before Scherzer listed him. Being recognized by OdR can in no way be used as an official RKT-list. In his work, Scherzer also delists 193 recipients, previously recognized by OdR. The main reason for delisting are the so-called "Dönitz-Erlass". Also, some illegal awards made at the end of the war by Dietrich, Schörner and others. All of these made at the very end of the war, march-may 1945. None in 1944. Never say never, but so far no evidence presented here yet supports the claim that Treptau was awarded with the Knights Cross.
