Don't know if the Wine is french, but nothing matters, these officers seems to appreciate it as well !! Apart the nationality of the Wine, my main Qusestion is "Who is the Oblt on the left" ??

I can't help with a name, but he has a Bronze PAB, making him a panzergrenadier or recon soldier. The piping colour is light, so I'd guess recon gold rather than Pz.Gren. green.

Any more clues? Writing on the back?

          Hi,

Refering to photo #82, cannot find a Jokob Heidrich either, but he looks very like Erick Zepper, same rank, but it does look as if he has "D" on his epaulettes whereas Zepper was "Westland" in Viking.

          cheers lennard

An excellent one IMO, high Quality Pic. The 398th I.R. belonged to the 216.I.D. This regiment was dissolved on June 1st 42. As Front Soldiers rarely wore there "Numbers" on shoulder boards at the Front, it could be the Gren.Ers.Btl.398 in Goslar...... but this Pic is embossed with the Name of a Photographer in Goslar.... No other Indicatuion on the Back....

I collected TDB photos for 40 years. They were not easy to find. I only wish I would have had the internet all those years !!!!! When my book came out in 2000 the internet was just becoming a good search location........oh well Tom

Hi Jay, Hi Tom.... I also collected for a long, long time before the Internet Revolution.... and this Revolution gave us all great Opportunities to meet new People throughout the World, sharing the same interest. The last Pic was the most easy Way to find good Pics : EBay !! The Other are mostly trades with friends of mine, especially german Friends. Other are coming from Family "Oh yes... he was a Friend from my Husband" "Do you remember the Name m'am ??". "Nein, tut mir Leid" !!
Tom, your Book was the first one on this Subject, a very difficult Matter, it is always so hard to be the first !! As you said, your Task would be much more easier nowadays, with the multiple reliable Sources, Forum's, Sale Sites....

I am now waiting the next one, a book on this Subject written by a Friend of mine, a wellknown german Collector.... I will give you more Informations on this Book once it has been printed, probably this Summer. Lionel.
