For info on Matzke's career, see Yerger's book, German Cross in Gold, Vol. 2, Das Reich, pp. 34-38.

Matzke's DOB is 28.1.18. He survived the war. Does anyone know if he is still alive or have a Date of Death for him? Thank you.

What do our members think here - is this possibly the same fellow ???. Same overseas cap, same rank in my (full and uncropped) photo, and the nose - at least - is spot on....

Many Thankx for this Tim....The uncropped photo is a beautiful full body-shot of Lorenz with his German Shepherd by his side. Unfortunately, cropped (but one would not know this unless seeing the full photo) post-war copies of this specific photo pop up on dealer sites / e-bay from time-to-time, but (many decades ago) I very fortunate to pick up an original of this print along with another photo of Lorenz taken at the same time / location.
