I have wondered about the way that works too.

I had an auction where I bid . . .I think it was 240 EUR on a album (in advance because I could not be online for the auction end).

Then multiple bids come in right up to the 240EUR mark and then stop (by the same bidder who had a very low purchase count).

I have wondered if a bid of 245 was withdrawn and it fell back to the 240 mark. Ie can a shill bidder withdraw just the single Last bid and not all the ones before that, also will the other bidders be notified by ebay ?

I believe you can't retract bids the last 24 hours on ebay.

            Begleit Battl

            Hi,
aside from the E-Bay 'shenanigans'/ crazy price, is this not a remarkable picture? I assume he is a member of the Fuhrer Begleit Battalion, also that the shoulder boards are black with white piping as associated with that unit. Are there many pictures in existence of this small unit?

Too much money, but is it not a very rare image?

            Regards, Paul

(I used to own a pair of FBB boards, bought from Brian Davis's collection 20 years ago. The things I've owned but don't any more....)

I don't think anyone is going to dispute the fact that the portrait is remarkable and very seldom seen. When items such as this turn up and the price hits the roof and beyond the vast majority of collectors would pay for such a portrait...then questions arise????...is someone playing games, are there Schill bidders at work or does someone really have that kind of money to piss away. I've been collecting photos for quite a few years and I am not rich by any means and I personally would never pay such a sum of money for this portrait...because I don't think it is worth that kind of money. I would not be surprised to see this portrait relisted sometime in the future.

They are out there and have surfaced in the past. I would not label it as a very rare image when compared to other similarly themed studio portraits that really do rarely surface, or have yet too. I can recall over the years having seen privately taken FBB related photos offered for sale on several occasions. Why this one went for such money makes little sense.

Another Rare portrait being listed not long after the first one was sold? This one under a different seller name but located not far from the other seller in Flensberg. I was close when I said this portrait would appear again. It will be interesting to see the ending price.

This appears to be the same guy (same seller as the 2nd version of the portrait above) :

I saw this photo on Ebay and saved it to see what is going to happen. Apparently this and the other portrait is coming out of a photo album that is being broken up for maximum profit. We shall see how much as time goes on. The 2nd portrait is currently sitting at 200 Euros with 16 hours to go...far from the 2,000 Euros the first portrait fetched...that is if someone actually paid that much for it. By the way both portraits are not the same..there are some minor differences that I noticed between them.

The problem is: it is not THE SAME portrait! Portraits in both auctions are DIFFERENT.

                            Hi to everyone....
                            mmm...something really odd....
The first one sold for € 2000 the second one sold for € 309,87......
The pic is exactly the same but printed in a different way......
I strongly doubt these are copies.....of course IMHO......

Rostyslav........Please re-read what I stated...I never said it was the same portrait. What I did say is that I wouldn't be surprised to see this portrait appear again and it did but in a slightly different format as mentioned by Giorgio.

I do see a difference in quality between the two as the second portrait is not as sharp and could be a possible copy or reprint

Second portrait couldn't be copy or reprint. It's original made from negative.
