    Found some Photos - need help

    Hello all, after going through some boxes in storage I came across a plastic bag full of world war 1 & 2 photos. They are mainly all German but I have some US and British ones to.
    On the Back of the German ones are pieces of paper with German text on. I've translated some and they are area photo was taken general description and I think the solider/person that took the photo. I have quite a few of Hitler, goring and Goebbles, mussolini.
    Are these pictures worth anything ? and do people collect them ? Some are pretty awesome and have stamps on the back saying seized from enemy records.

            Hi Chris,

            These are WW2 press (German) photos which are collected by certain members on the forum, and have a quite low value.
            Most sell for 10-15 Euro each, but if you have "good" pics i.e. Arnhem etc they may sell for 30 Euro each!

            Good luck.

            and best wishes,

            John.

              Coolio, I've got around 200 pictures in total. So in regards to the pics that have seized from enemy records stamped on the back are these just reference stamps ? As in where the picture originally came from ?

                Chris,

                Although I do not collect Press photos I've seen them sell for alot more than 30 Euros depending on the image presented and the collector who wants it badly enough. Labels on the reverse describe the image content and usually copyright credit to the Photographer who has taken the photo.

                  what particular events or people tend to be more desirable and I'll keep an eye out for them. I've yet to catalogue exactly what I have. Although there are some interesting ones of hitler. I have a weird one where he is sleeping on a sofa sitting next to Eva Braun.

                    I collect press photos (3700 and counting) and they are undervalued by most people. As with any image, it all depends on the subject matter of the image and if the paper descriptive tag is still attached to the back of the photo. You can see a vast array of oress photos in my Kriegsberichter thread. If you have any to sell, let me know.

                      Hi Chris,

                      Press photos are intended to illustrate news-worthy stories, and your set is no exception. Three of thee four you show provide the original date of the captured event in one way or another, and the caption on the reverse tells the story. Top to bottom, three of the four depict:

                      1. General der Infanterie Johannes Friessner in his role as commander of Army Group North on the Eastern Front, April 15, 1944;

                      2. A moment during the 1933 Nazi Party Congress (Reichsparteitag) in Nuremberg (August 31-September 3) as Hitler chats with SA-Stabschef Ernst Röhm and Stahlhelm Bundesführer (and Reichsminister of Labor) Franz Seldte;

                      3. Caption nor date visible; apparently a photo of Japanese troops in action;

                      4. Hitler in conversation with Roberto Farinacci, Italian Minister of State, during his visit to Germany on January 25, 1939. To Hitler's left is Dr. Paul Schmidt, Hitler's personal translator and interpreter, and to Schmidt's left is Gauleiter of Franconia Julius Streicher. The location at which this meeting took place has been changed from that typed onto the caption -- the New Reichschancellery in Berlin -- which has been crossed out. The New Reichschancellery did not officially open for use until January 30, 1939 so this meeting may have taken place in the Old Reichschancellery or perhaps at the Führerbau in Munich.

                        Photos

                        Hi Chris

                        They are definitely press photos of ww2 origin, from the third reich of German subjects, though the photos are not necessarily from German press agencies.
                        They were also distributed in the occupied countries and allies of the Germans etc.

                        Have a look on the e stand for an idea on prices! last few I bought were $35 -$45 .

                        Regards

                        Andy

                            Very nice selection, Chris. My favorite of your latest set is the last one. Here we see Dr. Goebbels' delight as he is 'welcomed' to Vienna with a bouquet of flowers presented by a young girl while other children look on. This visit took place on March 30, 1938, just 2 1/2 weeks after the Anschluss which united Austria to the Greater German Reich.
