    German manuals

    Allan,
I have a few manuals in my collection but most are weapons related. However, I do have an interesting one the covers field rations.

I am looking for H.Dv. 208/5. This covers the packing order of the M30 first aid kit (verbandkasten).

    Regards,
    Ed

      Hi Ed,

Which weapons manuals do you have?

I would've thought that the Inhaltsverzeichnis inside the lid of the Verbandkasten would have listed all these items anyway. I do have a medical manual at home and will look when I get a chance.

        Allan,
        I sold off the majority of the manuals that I had when I moved to the Caribbean in 1999. However, this is what I still have as it pertains to things in the collection;

Der karabiner 98k und seine handhabung: Berlin 1936

(Anh. zur H. Dv. 1a) Merkblatt for the use of the 98k rifle grenade launcher: 1.3.42

        (H. Dv. 256) Reinigungsgerat 34 und Reinigungsgerat 34 fur kal. 5,6: 18.7.36. Also includes the July, 1939 addendum.

(H.Dv. 86/1) Vorshrift fur die Verpflegung der Wehrmacht bei besonderem einsatz: 20.6.40. Also includes the portion size table insert

        (Merkblatt 19a/15) Deutsch-Russisches Soldaten- Worterbuch: 1943

(Merkblatt 19a/16) Die Taktischen Zeichen der Roten Armee: 30.11.42

        (H. Dv. 395/2a) Gasabwehrdienst aller Waffen: 1.12.42

        Taktische Zeichen des heeres: 1941

I've been collecting US manuals for a while. My dad is a member of the MVPA and I would pick them up at vehicle shows.

Most of them are American with a focus on armor and/or electronics.

I recently started looking into German manuals. I was lucky enough to find a copy of Panzer-Kampfwagenbuch pretty cheap. And I was the guy who recently shelled out for that copy of "D 652/41 - Gepanzerte Selbstfahrlafette für Sturmgeschütz 7,5 cm Kanone, Ausführung A bis E und 7,5 cm Sturmgeschütz 40, Ausführung F" on ebay.

note, it isn't the more common D 652/42 that is more common from reprinters in germany.

I would really like to start scanning my books, and work to restore them in Photoshop. There has been a huge surge of interest in vacuum tubes in the past 10 years, so maybe the original training manuals that many cut their teeth with would be helpful? And some of the armor stuff is a bit rare. Like I have one of the few books on the M2 Light Tank. I'm sure modelers would like a pdf of that since there is so little available for the pre ww2 tanks.

Hello, as a follow up to the above discussion, I was wondering how manuals such as these were distributed. Were they company issued or a private purchase item?

I recently picked up a "Deutsch-Russisches Soldaten Wörterbuch" dated 1942. I was curious how many Landser would have carried such an item (not only just in Russian but other languages as well) while being stationed/fighting in any of the occupied countires. Common or not?

                    Thanks

                    Rob

                        Hello,

I suppose (but I never had a confirmation for that) that the OFFICIAL manuals (H.Dv, L.Dv, M.DV etc...) were distributed by the army structures to the concerned units. (It must be some regulation somewhere).
The other manuals, like Reibert, Soldatenwörterbücher,... without "Dv" (Dienstvorschrift) were privately purchased, my guess is they were available in the field stores (among the normal books, the personnal kit items)

Thanks for the reply. This one may have been officially distributed by the army then, as it is marked with the "Dv"

                          In the top left corner:

"Anhang 2 zur H. Dv. la"
                          Seite 19a Ifd. Nr. 15
