    Horst Wessel Marsch-Album

    Also picked this up today

Was this meant for personal use or was it for more for organisations to use ?

    Cheers

It was a private purchase piano music book that anyone could buy, but I would think primarily SA/SS/HJ members would buy it to play for song nights.

      Thanks for the input Erich

Are these worth anything, I did not pay a lot for it, the pictures I have posted are not very clear.

I was attracted to the art work on the cover, the rest is all complete with no damage, the colour of the art work on the cover is still quite vibrant despite its age

It looks like the binding has been repaired. I paid $35.00 years ago for one, and $60.00 for one in better condition within the last couple of years. I've seen them listed for between $40.00 and $100.00 on dealer's sites.

Cheers Erich, I paid £20 for it

I thought the ribbon type material on the binding was original to it, its a little loose ?....

            Cheers

The ribbon binding was very likely applied at the time. If you put the book onto the music holder of a piano, you have to flatten it out, which can break the binding--otherwise the pages can flip to a different song than the one you're trying to play. Often the binding would need to be reinforced or would be cut apart and reassembled more loosely.

The artist who produced the cover design for this album was Hans Schweitzer, the poster and post card designer and chief cartoonist for Goebbels’ "Der Angriff" newspaper, who used the professional pseudonym “Mjölnir,” the name of Donner’s hammer in Wagner’s "Ring Cycle."
