portrait: heer soldier with ss helmet?

Hello everyone,

I would like to share with you a strange portrait photo from my collection which appears to show a soldier in heer uniform with an SS helmet. It is not a police helmet as the party shield is on the left side and not on the right. It is also not mirrored as then the breast eagle should be visible on the then left side. Maybe someone has an explanation?

Just a guess, but perhaps he's a former Heer soldier, who joined the SS-VT after his Heer service. For fun, because it was an unusual combination, he then posed with his new helmet and his old uniform.
