    Large "Staged" photo Stalingrad

    Good day gentlemen

This large photo (55x40cms) has been gathering dust for some time. As you can see it is annotated in pencil Stalingrad 15 December 1942. But it must have been a very warm winter that year as there are still leaves on the trees.

What do you make of it?

Is it period and if so why so obviously annotate it incorrectly?

    Many thanks

    James

It's an original printed card, not a private picture. It's not December near Stalingrad in my view. Jason Mark might be the person to confirm definitively if it's related to Stalingrad in any way at all.

Looks like from a pre-war exercise.

        Hi,

this is clearly a pre-war picture, and the extra text is coming from nowhere and is not related to the picture itself.

Similar pre-war pictures of 150mm guns were published in the "Unsere Wehrmacht" postcard series.

Definitely not Stalingrad at any time of the year.

I am sure that Hitler and the Wehrmacht would have really been pleased if the December weather in Stalingrad looked anything like this picture.

Also, the third guy back is wearing a transitional helmet.

And the gun is painted in pre-war camo

The photo must be from the training manual on how not to camouflage

Not sure about the picture itself. Others have commented knowledgably already. However, I can say it was used in the "Unteroffiziere im Kampf' postcard series. Not sure when they were issued.

As Garry pointed out, they would have been thrilled to have weather like this at Stalingrad.

                    Hi,

excellent Curt, you found the postcard !

The various pictures of the collection seemed taken from pre-war and war periods, at least up to 1941.

But the postcard series was maybe released later during the war ?

                    See You
