    Catherine Palace, then & now

This August I had a chance to visit St. Petersburg (Leningrad in WWII), Catherine Palace included. Impressive. Awesome. Incredible. Just great. What a tragedy, this palace was completely burned down and rebuilt.

Back in Tokyo, I checked my Agfacolor part of my collection to find Catherine Palace photos.

So here goes a Then & Now comparison.

I should have checked my collection BEFORE the trip. Had I done so, I would have a better comparison shot!

That is a location I have long wanted to visit and I agree it's shameful it was destroyed. It was recently featured all over the news due to the international conference there.

I also have an album which features this location (Pol.Btl.102/SS Pol.Rgt 16),

Thanks Gerard for the great pictures of the palace! I was a bit disappointed at the lack of interest in this matter; perhaps it is because few of our members have visited the palace in person.

St. Petersburg is a great city to visit, even just to entertain yourselves but also to look back into the history. Highly recommended.

                  Thank you once again.
I've been in this palace. To see photos during the fighting, that's great. These photos are the real treasure!

Note the vaulted ceiling, totally unlike today.

Any chance of seeing some more color from your Leningrad images? I'd like to show a few as well but as you know, the emphasis now is currently on the Russian Front book project so I'm holding out for that.
The invitation is still open though for your welcome contribution of both your expert knowledge and superb color images from your vast archive!
