Hi Gran,

Great photos!! We tend to forget that the 88mm cannon fired a 3 1/2" high velocity shell, and that ain't no lightweight! From the display on the gun shield, we can easily see what a variety of damage it could inflict.

From the score kept on the gun's shield, this AA crew fared far better against ships of all sorts than it did against aircraft!

Amazing those crews aren't more highly decorated--some of those ships appear to be destroyers based on their silhouettes.

& slightly off topic, didn't Tiger tanks engage US ships at either Sicily or Anzio? I vaguely recall reading that the 88 shells went right through the thin-skinned destroyers without causing any major damage....

There's also dates written near the ship silhouettes (looks like they say "43"), so it should be possible to confirm location. Edward is almost certainly correct as there's very few places in Russia with this terrain near the sea (Black Sea has totally different terrain).
