    Coastal Artillery/ EKII Document Grouping

    Hello Collectors,
I picked up this two document grouping over the weekend. Looks like the recipient was originally in the Kriegsmarine and then ended up in the Heer, later in the war when he was awarded the EKII in July of 1944. I know that the Coastal Artillery Document was signed by Konteradmiral Kurt Hoffmann, but I can't figure out what signature is on the EKII Document. Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thank you and best regards! Tom

had me puzzled too for a minute because A.R. 171 belonged to the 71 Infanterie divison not the 305. However! i notice in Tessin that around the time of the award date both the 71 and 305 divisions were in the same general area in Italy and in the same Korps, the LI Korps, they also seemed to have both swapped between this korps and the LXXVI during the summer of '44. So i'd take an educated guess that at the particular time of the award this regiment was temporarily under opcon of the 305th ID.

The signature should be that of General der Artillerie Friedrich-Wilhelm Hauck who was awarded the RK as commander of the 305 ID on 11th June 1944. Hauck also became Korps commander of the LXXVI korps later on.

                    Hello Simon,

Thank you very much for your help with this document, and for the link to the website with the info. on Hauck. I wasn't too concerned about Artillerie Regiment 171 not being part of the the 305. Infanterie Division, because units did get juggled around from time to time. The thing that really had me puzzled was the signature. I was on the Lexikon der Wehrmacht site, looking up the Commanders of the 305. Infanterie Division. I saw that Hauck was the Divisional Commander at the time this document was issued, but I just could not see that name in the scribbled signature. Now that I have looked at it more, I guess I can see that the signature does begin with an 'H'. I was also thrown off because I was looking for a Generalleutnant, and Hauck was listed as General d. Artillerie. I forgot that the site shows his rank as the highest attained and not necessarily the rank at the time the document was awarded. Then I noticed the discrepency with the Artillerie Regiment and was really beginning to wonder as nothing seemed to match up. Your knowledge and research in this matter has really made sense of it all. Thanks again for your assistance.
                    Best regards! Tom
