WHAT place did I get into .. ?!

Does anyone recognize the settings of this picture .. ?

IMO verything here looks period enough ( bicycles , boxes ) to assume it's an actual G.I. 1945 picture , and not a still from a postwar movie .

    Has he liberated a movieset .. ?

    An operahouse .. ?

    Görings bathroom .. ?

I have never seen this picture before , so sorry for asking if it's already known - it seems too pompous / theatrical even for Nazi standards to be of official use , and it made me very curious .
Note the absence of swastikas on the EK pedestal , could be a theatrical light in front of it ..

I think it's the crypt of the 'Monument to the Battle of Nations'.

      According to Wikipedia :

During the Third Reich, Hitler frequently used the monument as a venue for his meetings in Leipzig.[11] When the U.S army captured Leipzig on April 18, 1945, the monument was one of the last strongholds in the city to surrender. One hundred and fifty SS soldiers with ammunition and foodstuffs stored in the structure to last three months dug themselves in, but were blasted with artillery and defeated.

If this photo is legit, how can it not be a famous one? It's incredible.

A great photo! And just think about the clean-up job that the people of Leipzig had to undertake after the war...and from more current pix, they did a fantastic job! Many thanks for sharing this with us.

That memorial was used as temporary POW-camp.
I know a former HG-soldier, who was held there for a while

Never saw this before--looks like something out of Tim Burton's Batman film!

I think the Burton one is more of a ripoff of the art deco style of the Chanin building artwork :

'Detail of lobby décor by René Chambellan, Chanin Building, 122 E 42nd Street.'

Also used in this book cover :

                              My thoughts exactly .. !

BTW , I do not own it in any way , it was sent to me by email asking for comments & I thought it was striking enough to be famous - perhaps now it will be one day .
Thanks for the info & links ..
