hello
wanted to share a great panzer document grouping i just got in....obviously the silver panzer document is very nice in its own right....however the beauty of this grouping from the 11th panzer regiment is the signatures...2 of the documents were signed by Bake, probably the most highly decorated non general officer in the entire Panzerwaffe during the war....Bake was a Major commanding a battalion of the 11th panzer regiment during the very famous Chir river battles outside of stalingrad in december of 42...he earned the KC for these efforts, he went on to lead the regiment at Kursk after his CO was killed and for his efforts here he earned the oakleaves....during the battles for the Korsun(cherkassey) pocket in 44, Bake was given command of the strongest panzer regiment, too my knowledge, in the entire war...it actually fielded 50 panthers and 35 tigers(+-) and spearheaded the drive (along with the LAH) to relieve the surrounded troops.
for these actions Oberst Lt Bake receive the swords to the KC.
he was credited with 2 single hand tank destruction strips as well as a number 50 panzer badge .....
the ek document is signed by an oaks winner von Waldenfels who was the 6th panzer div commander....
also 2 very cool postcards came with the group...if anyone cares to translate i would be indebted....
finally and not least is a Heros death" certificate for a member of PZ Gren regt 74 of the 19th panzer division...very rare to find but even better for me since i have a very extensive collection of groupings for this regiment and division.....
enjoy
