    Weird photo indeed !

I read "....eln" on the CT, but I am not sure...

Anyone with a CT reference book ?

Yes, but I could not find any prewar non-Army CT with this sort of lettering, with "ein" on the end... Then again, I'm not into this sort of thing, but I couldn't find a CT that looks like the one shown in the book I have before me...

Thank you Edgar for posting the close-up. The letters do appear to be 'ein' so really the only strong possibility is that the man wears the SS-Oberabschnitt cuff title 'Rhein'. The wearing of a grey uniform by a member of the Allgemeine-SS would fit with the lack of a board on his right shoulder.

I have no idea what unit this fellow was in, but the helmet appears to be possibly a M-35 Polizei (reversed decals), with the police eagle colored in all black, and white SS runes painted over black sheild.

The man is a member of SS-Nachrichtensturm 13 "Rhein." He is wearing a "Rhein" Oberabschnitt cufftitle. Not seen is the SS Nachrichten Blitz collar tab on his right collar. The photo was taken in May, 1940. I have his photo album. Sadly, this photo appears to have been removed from it at some point
