Dear forummembers,
I work right next to the German military cemetery in Lommel, Belgium, in the so called YMC (not YMCA) or Youth Meeting Centre. This is an educational centre, focussed on the cemetery, first and a hostel (not only for schoolgroups) second. We are a part of the German wargrave commission´s youth work. German Wargrave Commission = Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge
At the YMC, we organise educational projects and activities, mostly for secondary school pupils. Examples of such projects are studying biographies of German soldiers of which we´ve acquired documents such as Feldpost, Deutsche Dienststelle docs, Soldbuch, etc. All of this within a clear message of peace and reconciliation.
For a particular, new project about Fieldpost we are searching for letters of soldiers buried specifically in Lommel, to give this project a unique touch. Of course, we do not ask for original documents, but high quality scans of these.
Anyone who would like to donate his/ her letters, has the opportunity to share these documents with youngsters for educational purposes. Donators will be thanked and mentioned as source.
Anyone who would like to find out more about what we do, can normally do so by browsing our website or contacting us via e-mail. Due to server problems, we are temporarily unavailable by e-mail or website, but have a look at our facebookpage: www.facebook.com/ij.lommel
Thanks in advance!
