    Bizzare WW1 Photo

I picked this up last week.
This is one of the most unique items from ww1 i have seen,

They must have been on leave from the front,

In the picture there is such a bizarre collection of items its unreal.

Its as if they said lets get random stuff to get out photography.

    In the picture is:

They have what is a horses head looks to be made of wood

A large monkey looks to be metal.

    A man with a broom

    one troop has a accordion.

A troop with a sword that has "though shall not kill "written on it.
This is a postcard. On the back it only states 1914-1916

    really unique item
what do you guys think> also whats the whole jackets all about.

The "Griesheimer Sand" (written on the plate) was a military training area near Darmstadt / Germany.

    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truppen...latz_Griesheim

The soldiers have been there for training and took the photo as a joke.

They write that they had made a deep degreasing ("Entfettungskur) as spa guests ("Kurgäste").

If you think this is "bizarre", there are plenty of photographs, both WWI and WWII, with lads doing all sorts of goofy posing like posing with human skeletons or mounted animals. Those photographs with a soldier in a bear suit are hilarious!

not uncommon to use the props lying around in a photographic studio...

            I love it.

I know there are plenty of 'goofing off' photos but its nice to see the lads enjoying a beer and having fun before no doubt facing the seriousness of war.

            Thanks for sharing it.

            Chris.
