My Great Uncle ...Hugh Maus 4th USMC Division...1945
Today i found a shot of my great uncle with a M1 carbine...and machete in Maui ...He was a 4 time Purple Hart recipient ...badly hurt in the Iwo Jima Battle... the 4th shipped out on 13 January 1944, and in 13 months made four major amphibious assaults, in the battles of Kwajalein (Roi-Namur), Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima, suffering more than 17,000 casualties. As a kid in the 70s i remember him telling me he was a part in all of these landings...I wish i knew him better....Thanks Uncle Huge!
