IMO they used much smaller ones, at least in action.
I have pictures of soldiers taking pictures, and they often show pretty small Reflex cameras. -
Your camera is either an Agfa Box Typ 24 or 44 which used 120 film to make 6 x 9 cm photos. They were made in the date range of 1932-36 and could have been used during the war but their bulkiness would not have been popular with soldiers who wanted to move quickly and take pictures without being overly encumbered.
