    Hitler 1933 News Photo Original

Acquired recently: This is a Keystone-Underwood news photo taken right after power assumption (front and back views) There is some period black outlining around Hitler to make him stand out more prominently from bright background. Can anyone enlighten as to significance and value?

    Thanks

It's a standard press photo. The drawn black lines are editing lines for cropping the final published image. Nothing unusual, but a nice image, seen before.
The SA-Oberführer on the left is Freiherr Karl von Eberstein.

Baron Karl von Eberstein is the key to understanding when this photo was taken -- along with the reality that it was taken during the spring or summer, given the tree in full leaf in the background and the clothing of the subjects -- which immediately called into question the statement that "This...news photo taken right after power assumption." The newspaper clipping on the reverse carries the date of January 30,1933, which was the date that President von Hindenburg announced his selection of Hitler to be his Chancellor, but it is clear that this photo was not taken in the middle of winter. As Max mentioned, Eberstein is seen wearing the rank of SA-Oberführer, which he held from September 15, 1931 until he was promoted to SA-Gruppenführer on September 1, 1932. Therefore, this photo must have been taken during the spring or summer of 1932.

Had not thought about the incongruity of trees in leaf... The clipping with Jan 30 stamp must have been added to the back later. Thanks for the information re Baron Karl von Eberstein.
