I don't know who she is, but I just have to say WOW what a babe. She could've been just some starlet. Being in the cockpit of a P-39, it might have been in the early partt of the war.

Hi Chris thanks for the identification. As I recall, Ms. Darnell died in that fire back in 1965, though I'm not sure of the circumstances. Was the fire determined to be accidental?

Probably Linda Darnell's most memorable movie (at least for me) was the "The Mark of Zorro" opposite Tyrone Power.
            By the way, she's sitting in a P-38 Lightning (not a P-39)...

Couldn't say. I know there are differing accounts on what happened. The story I had always heard was she was trying to save a friends child. Regardless, an awful way to go.

Hi you're right, it's a P-38, the P-39 was in the background and it misled me. Still such a sad end for such a beautiful woman. Is that a P-39 in the background? I took another look and I guess I must be seeing things. It's a P-38 in the background isn't?

Thanks for the i.d.--I had never heard of her until now. She was quite the looker in her time--here is a pic of her from 1944 for Yank magazine:
