Mittelbau Dora - Nordhausen - Peenemünde.???

    Hello

I got today a few documents (Photo -Album will follow) from a soldier who saw action as guard for prisoners.

His unit was for example "9.Kompanie Versuchskommando Nord" also the 5. and 7. kompanie from 13.10.1942 - 29.01.1944

There are also stamps from Nordhausen, and the Sanitäts stations Peenemünde aso, and on pictures is written karlshagen aso

Can you help me with the units. Is this Mittelbau Dora, Peenemünde the rocket search area....??

    Thanks for the help!

    All the Best

The rocket (A4) research establishment in Peenemünde was mainly evacuated following serious bomb damage after Allied air raids. Hans Kammler promoted underground sites in Nordhausen and Austria as various alternatives and operations were transferred there, although Peenemünde remained as a V2 launch site. The last rocket launch there occurred in February 1945.
Nordhausen was the site of Mittelbau-Dora, a factory built into the Harz Mountains by utilising tunneling. Near the entrance to the tunnels, a concentration camp was created. When US troops liberated the camp in April 1945, numerous V1 and V2 rockets and parts were discovered at the tunnel sites.

The development of the tunnel complex at KL-Mittelbau-Dora, a former sub-camp of Konzentrationslager Buchenwald, was brought about by the allied air attacks that rendered the Peenamünde facility useless as a production facility. The tunnel complex, which stretches for some 20km, was used prior as a Wehrmacht fuel depot. Following the arrival of thousands of prisoners, the tunnels were converted into construction areas for the V1 and A4/V2 rockets. "Sleeping Tunnels" were also present in chambers 44-46, part of which is actually among the areas accessible today. Later, once the rocket manufacturing facility was operational, the Konzentrationslager was created. By this time, the prisoners who had worked on the tunnel driving project were utterly exhausted, and transferred to other underground facilities nearby, to work at some of KL-Mittelbau-Dora's sub-camps. The Nordhausen area indeed had many underground sites connected to the Konzentrationslager system. A new batch of prisoners was selected from other Konzentrationslagers, to work on the rocket manufacturing process. Attached are a few images from a recent study visit at the site.

            Regards,

            Carl

p.s. Nice document, thank you for sharing it with us all.

                Very interesting,

Here's one I have. As you can see they transferred to 7 Kp. on the same days and were discharged on the same days.

Perhaps it is the same case in yours, my guy was discharged to Heimat Artillerie Park 11, Karlshagen. Which I believe was the cover name for the V2 research center.

His civilian trade was a mechanic.
