    Luftwaffen-Fahrenflotillen. Supplies to North Africa.

    Hi all
I thought I would share a recent purchase of a modest Black Wound Badge Urkunde to a Corporal Hans Zapke of 5. Fahrenflotillen. This is not normally an area of paperwork I collect in but it was such an unusual unit and is seldom seen on the WAF so I bought it.

This Luftwaffe unit was based in Sicily and was used for transport duties between Sicily and North Africa. It consisted of 97 Siebel ferries and about 30 I-Transporter. On the day Hans Zapke was wounded there is a record of an allied air strike on the ferry base at Marsala, Sicily and many ships were destroyed or damaged. Maybe he was injured in this air raid ???

After the German loss in North Africa the unit was disbanded.

    All the best, Darren

Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.
