    Speer Verbaende

Allthough my main interest is original pics of knights cross and/or german cross in gold holders. I also have a few other bits and pieces, including this picture of a member of the so called "speer-verbaende". I was wondering if someone on this forum has more knowledge about this unit and would like to share it with me.

    regards,

    Peter.

    Speer

Speer established Baustab Speer. Drawing mainly on personel from the NSKK School at Döberitz, he set op a road transport facility-Motor Transport Standarte Speer, and a waterborne organization-Transport Flotte Speer.
after 1941 the Motor Transport Standarte Speer was enlarged to become Transportbrigade Speer and attached to the Luftwaffe.
Foreign volenteer drivers of non-Nordic origin (not eligible for NSKK memberschip) were serving in the Speer or OT transport units. After the dead of Fritz Todt on 08/02/1942 the NSKK/Todt and NSKK/Speer came under the same command of Albert Speer. In 1942 the NSKK Transportbrigade Todt and the NSKK transportbrigade Speer became the NSKK Transportgruppe Todt, and the foreigners non-Nordic be grouped in a single formation "Legion Speer".
The NSKK/Speer was angaged principally on military transport duties (weapons and supplies), while the NSKK/Todt was concerned largely with building projects.
In October 1942 the title NSKK Transportgruppe Todt was changed to NSKK Transportgruppe Speer.
The Speer Legion had by August 31,1943, 7742 members including German cadre.
On 12, 1944 Transportkorps Speer (TKS) came under the command of the Wehrmacht. All former members of the Transportgruppe Todt and the Speer Legion were incorporated into the TKS.
Two regiments were attached to the Luftwaffe, the rest to the army.
The strength of the TKS on November 1, 1944 was 47727 men of whom 17000 were Reich Germans.

    hope it helps you
