First of all! A truly amazing grouping, I absolutely love it!

Regarding the quote: it depends when were the pictures taken? In the beginning of the war there was a lot of civilian clothing present in the partisan warfare but even at that time uniformed formations did exist. Actually especially at the Oberkrain area one of the first uniformed hats appeared - the so called Triglavka named after the highest Slovenian mountain and with a national three color emblem on it in the form of a V or upside down. If you'd like to see some pictures I can provide them. After the capitulation of Italia in 1943 things changed dramatically for the partisans since they got better equipped and uniformed as well. I agree with the person who said the dead bodies belong to civilians or perhaps the partisan helpers. They don't look like soldiers to me. Anyway I believe this is not a topic we should stick to. We should enjoy the collectibles instead!

Thus I present to you a partisan officer uniform from my personal collection. On the wall there are some Volksabstimmung Kärnten posters. I hope it suits in this topic.

Buckeru, once again, a truly amazing set!
PS: If you ever want to get rid of something you know where to find me.

Buckeru, that is an amazing group and it is very rare to see groups like this at all as they were often discarded at the end of the war. I know a former soldier who took part in a couple of ant-partisan actions and he said they one time found a casket in the middle of a room which did not have a corpse but was filled with weapons. When they burnt the house down the ammunition that was in the roof started going off. Later one of his comrades got his throat slit while on guard duty.

Bodies looks more like civilian (i can see a womans) than really partisans.

Antipartisan operation around some place or village, searching and finaly execution captured armed militants, suspected helpers or simply hostages.

Amazing, that was saved for many years, it would be a solid proof against owners in court.

I saw some polizei albums, but pics with "face of war" were destroyed.

Hello! It's common knowledge that partisan/guerilla warfare is non conventional and that the members blend in to appear as the local civilian population, that's normal.

There is no difference that's the point. I know, I have engaged in this type of warfare in Iraq-Afghanistan a several times myself ect. No way to distinguish if combatants or civilians. And yes, females are ruthless as well.

Helluva' nice Coolection of history Burkeru. And yes I agree this thread should focus on the collection.

Amazing this grouping survived intact as many former members wanted no affiliation to connect them with this type of organization and often war crime or atrocicty incident related warfare. Thanks for sharing. This inspires me to add to my small POL collection.

But that fact is not a reason to kill everybody in front of the barrel and burn everything.

In fact mass terror was almost standard procedure for german police and security troops as reakction for activity of partisans and militants. Same kind of action you can find in Russia and Poland. Information about activity of armed militants and fighters against occupants, and next operation "search and destroy" around forests and villiges. In the end burning houses, public mass execution peoples as a bloody warnings for anothers. In the place of killed fighters will arrive anothers, and local civilians will hate you more and more. Way to hell and nowhere.

Please don't forget that "Guerilla War" in countries occupied by Germans was also a way of fight for freedom !

If you would be on places of this militants in your country, you would do same things.

Point well taken, but It was a two way street to date. Partisan's/insurgents imposed likewise treatment on civilians in this manner as well. The civilians are normally the real victimns of war caught in the middle of two forces oppossing the same opression.

Just a very sad aspect. We will never know the true circumstances here as illustrated.

Ohlau, No conflict here but good constructive debate! I'm sure your ancestors were intensly caught up in this. Yes it did happen in my country and my ancestory begging with the arrival of Mr Columbus.

I'm good with these speculations and hope this valuable thread Buckeru provided will not be deleted by a little abstract subject resigning from the prpoerties of the topic and collection we all have in common by sharing the same interest..

Well, i'm not very familiar with situation in Balkans, but I know very well history of guerilla fighters in my country and my life area during WWII.

Most of civilians in villiges of course wants freedom and country without Germans. Fear, mass terror, compulsory gifts for occupants. If you don't gave Germans a milk, cows, potatoes, wheat etc. you could be easily punishment or even hanged in front of your neighbours with whole family. There was many cases like that. So not a very comfortable life.

On the other hand freedom fighters (Home Army - AK- Armia Krajowa) to life and fight with Germans also need supply. Firearms wasn't so big problem like having fresh food, drinks, save places for rest, clothes, medicaments.
So they also need material help of villigers to exists.

Now that was hard for simply villigers - if you don't give Germans what they want they will kill you. If you don't give supply to partisans they will say you don't want help freedom fighters. Maybe they will not kill you but for sure it will be your civil death in your community. Of course militants killed many traitors collaborators for betrayal of the country.

Tragic and sad. Result of country occupation and occupants politic.

Buckeru was very lucky to find that complete album. Very important from historic point of view.

Yugoslavian partisans were truly a "rainbow" army. They've worn everything, from civilian clothing early on to german modified uniforms and italians uniforms, british battledresses they've recieved as a part of allied help etc. etc. Slovenian partisans were quite special since they had their very own hat insignia in the first years of the war - little national flags and similar.

                          Here's creme de la creme...

                          With marshal Tito...

I would be interested in fotos from his sport-awards!
Please, could you be so kind to show it?

I have some pieces of another Police-Men, who probably
                            start in the same races.
As example, "my" man also start in the Polizeimeisterschaften 1938
                            in Hinterstoder.
