    Who can read this ?

    Hi all

I was wondering if someone could help reading the name/unit on this card.

    SS-Rottenführer
(first name might be Heinz ???? ) ???

    3/.SS Gebirgsjäger ???? Abteilung 6 ???

Many thanks for your help !

    Looks to me like:

    SS-Rottenfuehrer
    Heinz Fodmann
    3./SS-Geb.Jag. Ausb. + Ers. Btl. 6

Not 100 percent sure on that last name.

Perhaps Erdmann for the last name.

I think it looks more like "Erdmann" than "Fortmann".

Compare the first letter of the surname with the "E" of "Ers.". Also, the second letter of the surname ("o" if it's "Fortmann") looks nothing like the "o" of "Rottenführer".

            Tough one.

If I had to guess, I'd say Fodmann...

The first letter (that I guess is F) bears complete resemblance to the "f" in Rottenfuehrer. And although the name is VERY rare in Germany, it does exist. http://www.verwandt.de/karten/absolut/fodmann.html

As jmark says, you can compare the first letter of the last name against the "E" in "Ers." and they don't come close.

              Just my 2 cents.

                name

I guess I need to explain Erdmann. That is an upper case "E" for the first letter and not an "F". True, it does resemble a lower case "f" but a capital "F" is quite different. His signature "E" is a bit fancier than his Ers. "E" understandably. Herr Erdmann mixes his script and follows the "E" with a non-Suetterlin "r" in his signature and "Ers" and it isn't wonderfully formed in the signature as it has to rise into the "d" unlike the slight dip before going into the Er"s". And he seems to put the Betty Boop loop into his lower case "o" not evident in his name. There, I beat that to death. FODdER for thought.
