LOVE the '39 wound badge document. These are even harder to find than 1939 dated EK 2 docs.

Agreed, and that Nahkampfspange citation is very interesting. I'm not sure I've seen that variant before.

According to this death document he was awarded with the GAB one day after he died, and he was awarded with the CCC on 3.5.1945, i can understand the
GAB date but the CCC ...?

Either they were slow with processing his award or it is posthumous. My guess is that they were slow as combat awards always seem to have taken longer to process than bravery awards like the EK. Perhaps the GAB was given out as a result of his death and the CCC followed due to accumulated qualification. Very nice, indeed.

I assume you meant May, 1943...

Maybe because he died not too long (3-4 months) after the institution of the CCC. The unit may have seen he was probably qualified, tallied up his possible Nahkampftage, and used it as a posthumous award to send to the family as an "honor".

                      Just a thought...

Is there any more comment regarding the variant of the CCC document ?

                          IMO

EK doc signature: Friedrich-Wilhelm Löper (RK)
                          Sturmabzeichen signature: Waldemar Mayer (DK)

                          Best regards
