François, do you know why this officer received the RK? I always feel that recon and transport pilots are more likely to receive the DKiG than the RK, only a feeling nothing pointed in this direction, it looks like they do a hard work once and once again and again and this looks perfect for a DKiG award rather than a RK for an outstanding act or for being an ace or tank killer or supporting frontline soldiers. Have recon and transport pilots an scale for the award or the RK and DKiG as has the fighter pilots?
AngelLooking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.

others?
My guesses at two others: Barkhorn next to Schnaufer and Helmut Lent next to the wall.

Angel,
I am not sure how he got his RK. even if I believe for the sum of larges and successful number of missions
As you mentionned recon pilots can not reach the RK "for being an ace or tank killer..."
BUT and IMO, different factors can enter for them
- They can be can be at the origin of a large and successfull operation, determining the targets, the forces and weaknesses of the enemy.
- On the same logic, their reco missions can stop or prevent enemy attacks - that is why Hans Sehringer received the Italian medal (silver) "Al Valor Militare" (see pic).
- War operation missions, by their number as successful missions lead to the highest decorations - Sehringer already had the DKiG on 19.01.42.
*** Not the case here, but many observers, members of KG units received the RK, often because the plane they served on was very successful - in those cases, the pilot has at least the RK.

Thanks François, I have not much research in the LW and have the idea of the aces with dozens of kills or the close support pilots with dozen of tanks destroyed and colums smashed as the normal RK, surely the misions of the recon pilots are equal important to the operations, now I look at them as being the same as the A.A. in the Heer divisions. Another question, do you know if some transport pilot received the RK?
