It seems to me that the pic that leads off this thread is a staged propaganda pic, most likely taken by the Russians. The boy is not wearing a military (or even HJ) uniform, and there is absolutely no insignia on the hat. His expression is not one of excitement over just having been awarded the EK--there is almost a look of having been forced to pose for the pic.
Most likely, the soviets just stuck an EK on him to show that Nazi Germany was sending children to fight.
