Unusual document KIA ??

Not sure what to make of this, real thin, old tracing
paper. Has very small pin holes all the way around all the
text.
Bare with my pics, very hard to photograph.
Second piece of paper has an Iron cross stenciled.

These came with some other non related SS feldpost letters
that I'll post later.
Anyone help with what this possibly is or time period, and any info on this
soldier? Again this paper is very old and fragile. What would they have traced this over?

Hi,
No problem for me, it is a period document kept as a remembrance for the soldier.
This tracing paper was used to draw the grave of the soldier.
It was the "mould" for tracing correctly on the wood. The letters were first drawned on the paper then transfered on the cross with a pin and finally painted.
You should keep this paper, it means a lot to this fallen soldier.

Yes, definitely Diedler.
Went and shined a light thru it and that's
what I get.
That's some pretty good info, I'll definitely keep it!
Are there very many of these papers around?

"bei Kowalewka" - at/near Kowalewka. The place where the soldier was killed.

I wouldn't think there would be too many of these
around.
Would they have been sent back to the family of the deceased?
Or just thrown away?
