EKI grouping to 9. Panzer Division

    Hello Gents!

Sorry for my bad English! Today i show you my new find from 9. Panzer Division.

    4. Leichte Division was the predecessor of 9. Panzer Division, whose manpower resources was based from Austrian Wehrmacht after the German troops swalloned up Austria in 1938. The base of 4. Leichte Division / 9.Panzer Division was in Vienna.

This grouping is belonging to Oberfeldwebel Franz Hanghofer from Kavallerieschutzenregiment 10 (S.R.10). Before the war, he serviced in Austrian Wehrmacht, got to know it from his WP, the military base is in St.Polten, after 1938, he joined German troops and in S.R.10, which was established on 1st Aug. 1938 (see P12 in WP).

From his awards documents, we can easily imagine how brave he was, since he got both grades of EK in the early year of the war (in 1939 for EKII, in 1940 for EKI), the early EKs documents are sought after in documents collection community, i think the reason is that getting EKs in early year is very difficult in comperison with in the late years. Both EKs were signatured by Generalmajor/leutnant von Hubicki, after Poland feldzug, he was back to the base in Vienna, and got the Panzerkampfabzeichen in Bronze, he also got schutzabzeichen, etc.....

    9. Panzer Division is the only panzer unit in Holland feldzug, after the actions in France, he took part in Balkan, then in Russia. Unfortunately he got a neckshot in 6. July. 1942, and died on 12.Aug.1942 in feld hospital.

I think if he didn't die so early, he would have been awarded DK or RK then! A very promising NCO !!!

This grouping was found in Austrin with the help of Mr.Michael. I like it very much because the grouping is from Panzer division, both early EK awards, with soldier's foto, and full grouping.......

hopefully you will like it as well.

Fantastic grouping and back story, kudos for a complete
and concise biographical package. His gravesite photo is a
bonus addition for future verification too.
