    Gebirgstruppen Poster

    Gentlemen,

I picked this up earlier today at a small local estate auction. The auction was out of the estate of 3rd Infantry Division G.I. who fought in the European Theater and was in Germany at least through December 1945. This poster appears to have been mounted on poster board and was hanging on the wall in the vet's son's room. It appear to have been hand painted or at least hand detailed. In places, it appears that print can be seen behind the paint. I am not quite sure what to make of it. However, it is an interesting and neat piece. Thank you in advance for your help.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremiah

                  Grüß Di' Jeremiah,

Well, if it was an original wartime Waffen-SS Gebirgstruppen poster, it's worthless now that it has been painted over IMHO.

                  The original poster was monochromatic:

                  Bergheil und Horrido!

Thank you. After looking closer and closer, i do believe that it is a poster that someone has painted over. Original poster? Who can say. At any rate, it is a neat piece and looks great in the war room.

                    Sincerely,

                    Jeremiah

It is impossible to say when the paint was added to the poster. The paint is old. It wasn't done recently, but it is impossible to say who painted it or when i am afraid. And, there is so much paint on the poster that i think it would also be very difficult to tell if the poster underneath is original or not. Still, very interesting.

                        Sincerely,

                        Jeremiah
