Wow, a great pic I've never seen before. Bochmann was promoted to Obstubaf. on November 9, 1943, a few days after he left his command of SS-Panzer Reg. 3.

This photo must date from after his promotion, but is probably prior to his taking command of the SS-Economic School at Arolsen on February 10, 1944. It would make sense that during late 1943 and early 1944, he would have made publicity appearances with HJ and BDM groups, such as he seems to be doing here. Of course, it remains possible that this photo was taken later in 1944, during a break from his school command, the girls could even be on a tour of the school.

It thrusted into my eye and while I was thinking to report that anomaly, I saw your queston. Is that some of the shields above the eagle?

                      Hi, Mike.

It´s the Demjanskschild, take it from me!

                      Cheers.

                      Jaime.

Agreed, Bochmann was at Demjansk with the Totenkopf Division. He won his RK there in the spring of 1942 as the commander of the Totenkopf Panzerjäger Abteilung. He obviously survived the fighting, but the Demjansk campaign likely shortened his life, because he contracted what the Germans called "swamp fever," which was a sort of malaria. Bochmann died at age 59 after the disease progressed as he got older.

Bochmann won his Oakleaves for commanding II./Kradschützen Regiment Thule in the Kharkov campaign during the first part of 1943. He later won the Swords, in the spring of 1945, for commanding the 18. SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier Division Horst Wessel in Silesia. He was one of the last officers to receive his high decoration personally from Hitler.
