2 Claus Staufefnberg signatures on Schmolt

I see Axel Schmolt has released his new catalogue today (http://ww8.schmolt.de/). He has two signatures attributed to Claus von Stauffenberg on offer. See lots 111 and 112.

Personally, given his rarity, I am surprised to see 2 come out at once....that in itself is a major red flag to me.

The left-handed 1944 signature seems VERY similar to a document that sold on Herman Historica last year. Given the child-like qualities of Stauffenberg's amputee signature, I would never consider purchasing one as it is not IMO easily verifiable.

Based on the signature, the 1943 Africa doc is not one I would want in my collection.

I have made a bit of a study of Staufefnberg signatures and have owned two.

    Any opinions?

    Colin,
I believe you are right to be cautious and if they are anything like the Heydrich that's being offered, best to avoid.

I agree that the Heydrich example is poor, and the "S" at the beginning of the CvS piece in the link looks like it was done in installments. I wouldn't be comfortable with either.

And again two signatures for sale. This seems a bit often recently, isn't it?

I would not recommend either one sadly. Before the 22000 Euro sale in Stargardt a couple of years ago, Stauffenbergs were almost never seen on the open dealer and auction market. Now we are seeing 2 each outing - usually a right hander and a left hander - and the left hand ones are all on the same sort of random stationary forms. Schmolt has had examples in two sequential aucitons and 2 and HH sold the first one I saw.

That should tell you all you need to know.

Shockingly for 2200 and 4800 Euro. I note that you did not put "Stauffenberg" in quotes.

I was surprised to see the Hurt Huber letter go for only 2000 (reserve) given he was a core White Rose member. But then I don't know his signature.

Hello to all I also saw both signatures of schmolt and I have compare mine by report has that of Stauffenberg before July 1944 sold by schmolt ;and effectively they are completely different

I would not have put a penny, either in this one sold by schmolt
but how a professional and expert can sell this kind(genre) of signature ?
