    SS Panzer RKT, who?...

    Found this in "Tigers in Combat vol. 2" it says he's an Obersturmführer with Schweres SS Panzer Abteilung 502 but I can't find anyone named "Schienhofen" in any listing of RKT's...

    Anyone recognise him?

    It should not be too difficult...

    There were only 3 guys from Schwere SS-Panzer Abteilung 102 / 502 who won the RK...

    * Kalss, Alois 23.08.1944 SS-Obersturmführer Führer 1./s.SS-Pz.Abt 502
    * Egger, Paul 28.04.1945 SS-Obersturmführer Zugführer i. d. 1./s.SS-Pz.Abt 502
    * Hartrampf, Kurt 28.04.1945 SS-Sturmbannführer Kdr s.SS-Pz.Abt 502

    In addition both Egger and Hartrampf are so called unconfirmed recipients!

    To me he looks like Hstuf. Alois Kalss, but I could be wrong!

          Thanks :-)

          Could certainly be Alois Kalss

          Any other suggestions? if "Tigers in Combat" got his name wrong, maybe also his unit...

              No need for other suggestions, Lohengrin is correct.

                  I pointed out to Wolfgang Schneider years ago that it was, in fact, Alois Kalls. He then made the correction when he used the photo in his later book, Das Reich Tigers.

                  He said he had received the photo in a batch from Schienhofen (or one of his colleagues, I forget now) and there had been no caption, so he was led to believe it was Schienhofen. Schneider's specialty isn't awards winners, so this photo got miscaptioned in Tigers in Combat 2.

                    I had been wondering about that photo for some time and now the mystery is solved .

                    A big thanks to all :-)
