    From Swinemünde to Kopenhagen

I have some pics on one of them there is a description on the backside:
"Überfahrt von Swinemünde nach Kopenhagen Mai 1945".

Was this a normal "escape route"? Why not shipping direct to Germany?

    Greetings

    Marcel

    Here is one of them:

    To nearest "safe" port?

Swinemunde and other ports along the northern coast of Germany had been heavily bombed in 1945, if you travelled from Swinemunde (now Świnoujście in Poland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Świnoujście) the nearest safe place could have been Kopenhagen.

If "may 1945" meant May 2 or 3, Kopenhagen was still under German control (the surrender was on may 4'th) and somewhat out of the way from approaching British and Soviet forces.
