This is a typical memorial image as was prepared by small towns, with photos of all their KIA, MIA and 'heimkehrer', the lucky ones who came home alive.

Here in the Upper Bavaria you can still find those "Gedenktafeln" in the old beer halls /cantinas of small villages/towns.

That has to be almost 10% of the towns population that died in the war. It appears that these are all uniformed personnel, to include DRK Schwetern (I see at least 2 and possibly a Reichsbahn female). I wonder what their civilian losses were.

Also note how no SA or Goldfasanen are pictured.

Not all of them were KIA or died in the war. In the lower part are those called " Heimkehrer

und Vermißte " - returnees/veterans and missing.
