    Skijager help

Hi I'm having trouble finding info on this guy; Apparently this an early fpn 40340d. I think the name Karlheinz Shiwela, but this may be a greeting.

any info will be greatly appreciated, Mark

Looks like they were using the D in the fp number for the 13 Kompanie, this was the panzerjäger kompanie but it also included a number of 2cm flak.

I see he has two badges on his cap, can you do a close up of it?

thanks, Simon and Bob, I will try to get close ups; I think it's a Black WB he is wearing.

                Schiewek

Thank you, he must have been a ski-battalion "Schlebrugge/Minsk" member.
Sad, there were may others like him.

                Thanks, Mark

                  closeup

I looked it up, it's seems like him; I thought Voronezh was a little out of their range, but he is buried at Kursk friedhoff. 1/43 pretty early for the SJ badge and wrapper also pre brigade. Very interesting, political edelweiss and an SJ badge on a seperate backing???

                  Thanks, mark

It's not him. The skijäger capbadge wasn't introduced until after the brigade was formed in sept. 43, which is also when skijäger Rgt. 1 and 2 were formed. The use of the sturmartillerie uniform also didn't occur until after the formation of the brigade. The 13 Kp. of each regiment weren't formed until late 1944 when the regiments were expanded from 2 to 3 battalions.

i haven't looked up the other jäger batallione for dec.42\jan .43 but Jäger Btl.3 and 6 were involved in the heavy fighting around Welikie Luki.

that's the first time i've seen a member of the brigade\division wearing both capbadges, all other photos it's been one or the other, it shows that the 1 Skijäger division was part of the gebirgstruppe and many of it's personnel came from mountain units.

                        thanks, Mark
