Hi,

Just wondered if anyone was interested in looking at some documents I recently picked up.

Oberjager Mathias BRAMSTEIDL was a master blacksmith serving with Gebirgs-Jager Reg. 137 in Norway and received the Gruppe Feurstein award. Also present are two other award documents and an an album full of photos !

interesting to see he was an old WWI vet, what are the other award docs?

Your blacksmith died 8. September 2011- 96 years old.

He lived in Köstendorf in Austria.

For some reason the third award hasn't appeared so I'll try again Simon.

his awards are "Ehrenkreuz fur Frontkampfer" - from WW1 and the "Kreigsverdienstkreus II Klass mit Schwerten"


Many thanks Gerdan for the additional information. I had done some preliminary research and assumed that it must have been his son working as a blacksmith in Kostendorf. I did not find the reference to his death in 2011.

It makes me wonder if his family had sold his album and documents after his death as I had thought of trying to make contact with them to see if they wanted them back. I had a similar experience with a Grossdeutschland diary some years ago and was able to return it to the family (see Fledgrau Forum).

There is a letter written in pencil on the back of a large brown envelope which is too faint to photograph or scan successfully. But if anyone can help translate I can mail a photocopy which is just about readable.

Clearly we're looking at two different people here, of course the 96 year old who died last year didn't serve in WWI, i'd guess father and son but its also quite possible that all the docs belonged to the father.
