    Panzer units of SS-Polizei Division

    Hello all,

I just posted a photo on E-Stand, showing member of the SS-Polizei Division in panzer tunic. I have not seen many of these and I am wondering any of you have other photos showing members of the SS-(panzer)-Polizei Division?

Any additional information is also welcome!

    Many thanks,

    Mark

Was only the Polizei Division as 1 Abteilung only (no Panzer ever in title)

There were several independent Ordnungspolizei Panzer units also.

Right, I don't think the photo shows a member of the SS Polizei-Division per se but rather an officer of an armored police unit. Great photo!

        Hello Mike,

I just found these photos posted by our friend HUND...

I think these guys and my guy are the same...

Yes indeed, I certainly remember the thread. The photos show members of police armored units but not personnel from the SS Police Division.

A couple books would help anyone grasp the difference between the Polizei Division and independent Ordungspolizei units

see volume 5, part I, of "German Cross in Gold Holders of the SS and Police," Combat Elements chapter, for SS-Panzer Abteilung 4. It didn't exist until 1944.

                  Mike & Mark,

Neither Hund nor I questioned Mike's (correct) opinion that these are members of the Polizei Panzer units...

I just wanted to see and show more pictures!

                    Hi Mark,

It was merely your captioning error that caused me to comment: SS-Polizei Panzer

The individual depicted was not an SS member.

I do appreciate your posting the photo though

I am sure that you are correct, Mike... I do not know enough about these units!

What is interesting though, is that he is wearing an SS-belt buckle...

                      Also, in this posting: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=595501

There is an SS-Feldpost, belonging to a member of SS Polizei Regiment 13...

I guess I am a bit confused now - you say that the soldiers were not members of the SS, but were members of the SS Polizei Regiment?

                      Thanks for help on this!

Thanks Mark. All I see are Polizei belt buckles but no doubt your (or anyone else's) vision is better than mine!

What I have been attempting to point out is that members of Ordungspolizei Panzer units were not members of the SS Polizei Division and that the uniforms of each were quite different.

                          Hello.

                          As Mike states above.

The confusion is that the once police battalions that operated individually then became police battalions within SS-Police regiments.
Himmler used the pre-fix SS to signify the German police being part of the SS 'Empire'.

Police Battalions / Regiments wore evolving police uniform.
The SS buckle although not unusual is not common. (I was firmly told this in a thread some years back!).

As you know, The W-SS Polizei Division wore W-SS uniform from Feb' 1942.

                          Regards,
                          Chris.

No, they were just SchuPo members.
The SS-Polizei-Regimentr were under KdO authority, while the SS-Polizei-Division was a WSS unit.
Sometimes members of OrPo were also SS members, in that case they were expected to wear the SS-Brustabzeichen on the left pocket.
I've noticed that often Polizisten wearing the SS-Brustabzeichen also wore SS-buckles, but I don't this this is the case.

Actually I'm the new proud owner of this fine photo (thank you Mark)- not in the least because of indeed the Schupo Panzer officer shown-, but I have another question related (perhaps I should even post it in another forum); about the medal most men wear on their left breast pocket (viewers side)?

                              Anyone familiar with this award?

The photo was taken in Salzburg (mountainous area), so perhaps it is some kind of climbing or walking medal?

                              Thanks in advance.

                              F.
