Hi Bill,

In the photo you just posted, the soldier has an armband on. Any idea what the O.S. stood for?

Sorry I don't know but could be a position he is holding or a duty he is performing.

M-43 cap ?

How do you know he's not a British POW wearing a German M-43 cap ?

Because he is a German POW wearing a M43 cap. Typically many of the German POW's under the jurisdiction of the British were issued British Battledress but retained their M43 Caps. Just like the Germans in the latter stages of the war in USA were issued US fatigues, M41 jackets etc.,....many kept on wearing their M43 style caps. I've also seen other photos of German POW's wearing this type of armband...what it means I don't know. Recently a photo of a German POW wearing a similiar armband sold on ebay (link below).

Oct12 - FJ POW's in the USA portrait - Camp Unknown. This is an example of Germans in the USA that still retain their uniforms and decorations. I have many portraits in my collection showing such wear of their uniforms and decorations in Camps in the USA, Canada, France and England.
