IAB motif on regiment lithograph document

Request any unit identification assistance on this attractive document given to an Uffz Gunther Hoffmann by his company commander in 1942.

Possibly for security reasons the actual regiment is never listed but the campaigns are listed nicely with lithograph copied histories as the unit advanced for Barbarossa .

My guess is for an east Prussian unit with army group north. Would be nice if I can correlate it to the 21st Infantry division .

Great use of the IAB motif with the title, Hope you like it.

Marsche and gefechtskalender , March and combat calendar.

The photo probably makes it too hard to read the locations but it is a very interesting chronological record for the mystery unit.

A nice link to its Prussian heritage is the Order of the Black Eagle motif on the back cover with the motto "SUUM CUIQUE" in the medallion's center.

Suum cuique was the motto of the The Order of the Black Eagle (German: Hoher Orden vom Schwarzen Adler), the highest order of chivalry in King Frederick the Great's Kingdom of Prussia.

It was a symbol of the liberalism and religious tolerance of the Prussian Kingdom, which meant that "each can do as they choose", but all citizens had to unite in their support of Prussia. (source wikip)

Any exact unit help for the history would be greatly appreciated.

It is certainly not an Army Group North unit - its operational history matches 23. Infanteriedivsion from Potsdam.

The keys are the Moscow-Volga Canal entries in December 1941 (only a small number of infantry divisions have this - 23, 36 mot., possibly 106) plus the Ugra pocket and the fighting of parisans around Dorogubush on the Smolensk highway all point t0 23 ID.

Also, the production of this document for the the 'old regiment' is a probably because 23ID was transferred to France in the summer of 1942 where it became 26. Panzerdivision. It lost IR68 and the other egiments wre renamed Panzergrenadier Regiments 9 and 67.

A new 23 ID was formed in October 1942.

          Hope that helps.

            Gary,

Thank you for your direction with the great lead for the Division it could belong to. I really like the IAB being used with the commemoration title of the regiments campaign history.
