The symbol you posted is very similar to the one in my photo. However Akira
says it is a symbol for the invasion of Russia. My photo was taken in France.
Can you post a photo of a numberplate for me from your album.

alas My pic doesn't show a plate and I only have that one. But as Manuel noted and I back this up with worldwar11daybyday, this division served in the invasion of France as well. There is a possibility that the unit marking may have been used in the west as well.

Yes, definitely 253 Infanterie Division. Number plate 66719 (in top photo) belongs to Wehrkreis VI Munster which was military district for the 253.
