Saxaphones in third reich Germany?????

I have a couple questions about Saxaphones in third reich germany, and im not sure if you want it posted here or not, so sorry if not.

But my question is, Ive always believed and read that the saxaphone was considered to be a 'western. black, jazz instrument' and not looked at highly by the riech, but yet i see many in the band photos posted here.

The reason i started researching this prior was a shabby dealer in my area has in his possesion a Herman Goering Luftwaffe band etched saxaphone, which ive only glanced at through the case and he wont pull it out for me to take photos.

Anyhow any other thoughts on this matter?

The saxophone was invented by a Belgian manufacturer, Adolphe Sax and exhibited to the world for the first time at the 1841 Brussels exhibition. The saxophone is a relatively young instrument.

While its use in western music is obvious, its use in marching bands and orchestras came first. I have read that it was limited in use during the third reich and attempted to be banned in Japan during that time too.

My guess is that in the confines of a military band or state run orchestra, the saxaphone would only be used and played using approved music, and part of a larger group.

As far as the dealer with the etched saxaphone; I would be very cautious since he wont let you photograph it. It seems he might have something to hide? I have seen ligit engraved instruments before and they are always expensive. My wife, who has her degree from Notre Dame in music, pointed out that the cost of some of the third reich era instruments sold by military dealers are often less than a non-WWII era one sold by a music dealer. The cost of a plain oboe for instance is between $3000-$5000. Saw one offered on eBay that was used by the Grossduetchland div. band for less than that.
