Here is a photo of Emil Schmelz and his brother whos name I do not know. They were both musicians. I wonder if he survived the war, its sad to see these young men and know that Emil did not.

Here is a better look at the bands banners. I would love to have one of these with my display!

Well folks, it seems kind of sappy, but I really feel close to this young musician. I am thinking about trying to research his life a bit more and get some info about him. For me this collection of photos is more than just that. It is a private look into the life of a young man who had a musical talent, family, and friends. This is the human side of the war, one that is not seen to often (imo).

I will be posting more pictures soon and again thanks for looking and sharing.

Those are wonderful . My wife informs me that marching and playing music is hard enough, but playing on a moving boat is worse. (for her anyway).

Thanks for sharing and I hope to see the rest of your band photos.

                        Hi again JasonS & everyone,
Great thread you have started here! I posted a thread sometime back and
thought I would place the link here seeing it could be considered related.
Does anyone have period photos showing this musician's badge in wear? I think it was worn on the sleeve or upper arm. I have a hunch it could be SS but no one has been able to verify this.

Here's my contribution to this thread: A wedding photo (postcard size) of a member of a Wehrmacht music band I think ? He has got the Westwall medal too.

(If anyone is interested in this photo, just PM me)

I have NO idea what they did to that chicken.

Nothing like goofing off to ease the tension of war.
