Great pic. (I always thought they only wore the insignia with the waffenrock--know I know).

He is also wearing the early style boards. Even more interesting is that it appears he is wearing his sports badge over his EK 1.

Kidding aside it is a great shot of a Standardbearer, but having said that the photo has a comical appearance with one NCO Bogarting his "cigarette" while the Officer "spaces out" on his grapes and the Standardbearer looks furtively over his shoulder for the Feldgendarmerie (Narcotics section).
