Three years of war on the eastern front and still just a Gefreiter, not a good speller either but a hell of a soldier.

I always wonder about these well decorated soldiers that never got promoted.

Note: This Infantry man has been awarded the Eastern Front medal, both classes of the Iron Cross, the wound badge but no IAB.

Bravery doesn't really have anything to do with leadership potential. Some simply had no interest or aptitude to be anything other than a private soldier.
